World Stroke Day Celebration - October 29th from 11:30 to 1:30 PM at Austin Speech Labs

The World Stroke Day Celebration is a new event that will recognize the clients of Austin Speech Labs. It will take the place of our annual Year End Celebration. We invite all of our clients, families, caregivers, volunteers, supporters, and employees to come together in the Austin Speech Labs’ outside courtyard to recognize their struggles and successes over the year. There will be a photo booth, music and a delicious light lunch provided by Central Market.

The mission of World Stroke Day is to bring awareness around the world about strokes, how they can be prevented, and how to help someone receive care quickly if they show signs of a stroke. A stroke happens when blood flow in the brain is disrupted causing brain damage. Some effects of stroke can include paralysis, speech and language impairment, and visual problems. Many strokes are preventable by managing medical risk factors like blood pressure and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Getting treatment quickly can minimize the long-term effects of stroke. Visit www.stroke.org to learn more.

Author Meet and Greet

Join us Friday, July 23rd for a book signing and meet and greet with author and former client Bill Hrncir.

Time: 12 - 1 PM

Location: Austin Speech Labs in the Exchange Park Building Courtyard

7800 Shoal Creek Blvd., Austin, TX 78757

RSVP here

Stroke survivor Bill Hrncir has published a book, and we can't wait to hear him tell us all about it. Bill's prognosis was bleak at best. His stroke compromised half of his brain, but quitting, or accepting where he was, was never an option. Bill spent five years of his recovery driving back and forth from Laredo to Austin every week to get the services he needed. Bill was constantly researching and studying, looking for ways to improve himself.  Bill not only beat the odds, but he also wrote a book and started a support group to help other stroke survivors get the services and programs they need.  So save the date and come to our office and hear all about it from Bill.

Books will be available at the event our you can purchase Bill's book, I Just Can't Read My Own Mind,  here: https://store.bookbaby.com/book/i-just-cant-read-my-own-mind

Giving Tuesday

giving tuesday.gif

As the year comes to a close and we look toward 2021, we pause to reflect on a fundamental truth that gives us hope - that together, we can do extraordinary things. That’s why Austin Speech Labs is participating in GivingTuesday, the global day of unity and giving.

Over the past few months, our Austin Speech Labs community (you!) has been coming together to help out, give back, and heal. Whether that’s through donations, volunteering, or connecting at our year-end celebration, we have seen the results of your collective impact. Our doors are open and stroke survivors are receiving the critical therapy they need.

In order to continue providing this therapy, we need your help! A gift of $30 helps provide an hour of speech therapy, and gives stroke survivors the gift of connection during this time of isolation. And if you make your gift today, every dollar will be matched up to $10,000, thanks to a group of generous caregivers!

Thank you for being a part of the Austin Speech Labs team. Together we can help stroke survivors rebuild their lives, one word at a time.
