Austin Speech Labs is a 501(c)(3) organization in Austin, Texas that provides intensive speech and cognitive therapy for stroke survivors. We opened our doors in 2008 and have been growing ever since. We believe that all stroke survivors, regardless of where they are in their recovery or their economic situation, should receive as much therapy as they need to find their words.
Our speech and cognitive therapy pushes back against the traditional belief that stroke survivors only have a small window of time to recover after their stroke. Our data shows that survivors can continue to make progress as long as they are getting the therapy they need.
Austin Speech Labs provides affordable intensive speech, language, and cognitive therapy for stroke survivors and advances and shares its therapy methods with the larger community through innovative research.
We strive to improve the quality of life for stroke survivors and their caregivers by reengaging them in their social and professional lives.
Austin Speech Labs was founded in 2008 when two speech therapists saw a gap between services covered by medical insurance and what stroke survivors truly need to return to their social and professional lives. Speech language pathologists, Shilpa Shamapant and Shelley Adair, founded Austin Speech Labs to provide the intensive and individualized speech therapy required for optimum recovery.
We strive to provide a supportive environment for our clients to recover their communication skills after suffering stroke. It is important to our organization to bring these survivors into our Austin Speech Labs community and prevent isolation after such a traumatic event. We want to help them regain their speech so they can express themselves to their families and loved ones, which we consider a basic human need. Austin Speech Labs believes that giving them back their voice will help them rejoin the larger community.
