Marcy’s Corner 2023

As the warm weather approaches, I wanted to take a moment to check in with everyone and remind you that the Austin Speech Labs family is here to support each other through all seasons of life. I know I share stories of Jeff and his continued improvement and other caregivers talk about their loved one’s progress, but I also know many of you have family members that have had major setbacks this year due to seizures, blood clots, Parkinson’s, etc. Please know that you are not alone; we are here for each other to talk/laugh/cry together. If you ever need to talk/vent, please do not hesitate to reach out to me or Austin Speech Labs. Jeff and I have been a part of the ASL family since 2016, and as many of you know, we have lost several clients over the years. If you are new to the Austin Speech Labs family, just please remember that you have people who are in your corner and want to help you. I like to share good, positive, and up-lifting news, but I recognize that not everyone's situation is not good or improving over time, that you are watching your loved one disappear over time. Your grief and your experience is hard, but remember that is why I host the support group; I want us to support each other in the good and the difficult times. I'd like to share some websites and items with you if you're looking for more resources to aid you with your caregiving journey.

Corgenius: Adding Heart to the Brains of Business

As the population ages, the people around you are experiencing more of life’s difficult transitions and their needs change. You may even know on a personal level what it’s like to feel responsible for elderly parents or in-laws who are diagnosed with dementia or other serious illnesses. When your clients and colleagues face these challenges, they look for more than just objective business advice. They want an advisor with the understanding and knowledge to effectively support them on an emotional level as well. For more information, please visit: https://www.corgenius.com/

Wheelchair Travel

I write only about the places I have visited and the experiences I have had from the seat of my wheelchair. If I cannot be confident in the accuracy of information, I will not publish it. I am committed to providing my readers with the tools to access the world independently or with friends/family/caregivers. In addition to writing about travel destinations, I also have a deep interest in disability advocacy, diversity, inclusion and visibility. Together, we can be partners in forging a path forward for our disabled peers and the people who join our community every day.
