Austin Speech Labs, St. David's Healthcare, and The University of Texas Dell Medical School hosted a Health Fair on October 29, 2017 in honor of World Stroke Day.
This health fair was free event for community members. stroke survivors, and caregivers. It featured free health screeners and showcase local services that support stroke prevention, awareness, and recovery. We raised awareness of stroke's affect on communication by participating in the #silence challenge.
Steven Warach, M.D,, Ph.D., The University of Texas Dell Medical School, Department of Neurology, Stroke Institute, discussed stroke prevention and current stroke treatments.
Robert Lee, M.D., St. David's Rehabilitation Hospital, spoke of resources in our community for post-stroke rehabilitation.
Stroke survivors are at higher risk for recurrent stroke, and managing health is the best prevention. Lifestyle risk factors include obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure. Regular health check-ups are important. Read more about stroke prevention here.
Thank you to all our sponsors, vendors and volunteers who made this event so successful! We look forward to celebrating health, raising awareness of stroke prevention, and supporting recovery on next year's World Stroke Day!
